I have been a maths tutor now for over 13 years. During my first degree of physiotherapy (1997-2000) I tutored primarily Yr 10-12 students, including Extension 1 and Extension 2 mathematics (3 & 4 Unit respectively) to students from all over Sydney. In 2002, I had a career change. I decided to move into teaching and have not looked back since!
I am an enthusiastic and energetic person and I enjoy directing this into my teaching. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Education at the Australian Catholic University in 2002-2003. All up I have been a maths teacher now for 9 years, working in either a full time, part time or relieving capacity.
As a maths teacher I personally believe motivating students is the most important aspect to simple yet effective teaching. Deep down every student wants to succeed yet for various reasons students lack the self belief to succeed or the “know how” to succeed. Once a child is motivated the world is their oyster…
In 2004 and 2005 I travelled for 2 years and lived in the United Kingdom. This experience taught me many life long lessons, and it gave me the opportunity to also explore (and become proud!) of my Maltese & Lithuanian heritage.
On a professional level, the UK was excellent for my teaching. Based in London and then Bristol, I taught a wide range of students with multiple needs. I now feel competent in helping students of Non English Speaking Background, with Numeracy or Literacy difficulties, the Gifted and Talented and those students with Special Educational Needs.
I am somebody who loves my sports. My favourite is surfing and I have recently returned from an incredible boat trip surfing in the Maldives (April 2010). I am passionate about Rugby League and through thick and thin will forever support my Canterbury Bulldogs!! Through teaching I have also done my fair share of coaching in sports such as league, touch football, cricket, volleyball, basketball and athletics. My all time coaching experience would have to be taking the CBHS Lewisham Under 13’s side to the Grand Final of the 2007 NSW All Schools. The bus ride home, the satisfaction of the boys and the singing of the school song is something I’ll always remember!
